An overview of new methods and tools for model building, evaluation and utilization

Presented by Mats Karlsson, PhD

Utilization of models for decision-making rely on the quality of the model and knowledge of its deficiencies. In this presentation recent developments by the Pharmacometrics group at Uppsala University will be discussed: methods to make model building faster and more robust, diagnostics of the quality of models, for simulation applications in particular, and new model components that allow typical modeling assumptions relaxed. Support for decision-making in drug development is typically based on model and parameter uncertainty and methods to diagnose and propagate such uncertainties as well as providing type 1 error control for confirmatory decisions will be presented. The methods discussed are, or soon will be, available in the freeware programs Perl-speaks-NONMEM (PsN) and Xpose.
